"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference." Robert Frost.
I thought I was a musician, but it turns out that I was a computer geek. That one decision changed who I married (and who my 4 children were), where I lived, how much money I earned and what I did with myself for the past 40 years.
Wonderful description of the ways the theatre world presents itself to a writer's imagination. I wouldn't say my own experience is an exact mirror of yours, but certainly being a poet/performer betokens a strange journey--all the more bizarre, the more deeply one is enmeshed in the "industry." I'm always confronted with the paradox of wanting/not wanting this or that role, this or that commitment. Happily struggling mid-draft of a verse while waiting for the phone to ring. Then not wanting to answer when it does. Certain I'm a dilettante. I envy you knowing your path so well now!
This piece is the preface to your story. Bravo. Have you ever seen, or found, Mr. Levine?
